Quiz problems

A quiz is a problem answered on the page rather than with a program. The participant reads the statement, answers a set of questions — picking options or typing a short answer — and submits. The submission is graded straight away, with no tests, no checker and nothing compiled.

A quiz works wherever a problem does: in your space's problem archive, in contests and in courses.

Create a quiz

  1. Open Problems and click New problem.

  2. Choose Quiz.

  3. Write the statement. It is what the participant reads above the questions, so it can hold the shared context — a text to read, a diagram, the rules of the quiz.

  4. Add the questions, from the problem's Questions tab or with Add question on the Statement tab.

  5. Publish the problem when it is ready.

You need permission to write problems. A quiz has no Solutions or Testing tab and no editorial, and it does not open in the Studio.

Questions

A question has its text, a type and the Points a correct answer is worth. Questions are numbered in the order they are listed.

The options picked are exactly the ones marked Correct.

Text

Types a short answer

The answer matches one of the Accepted answers, ignoring surrounding space and letter case.

A Choice question lets the participant pick one option, or several when Multiple correct answers is on. There is no partial credit within a question: a multiple-choice question with three correct options scores nothing when the participant picks two of them.

A Text question can accept several spellings of the same answer. List each one under Accepted answers.

Scoring

The problem's score is the sum of the points of the questions answered correctly, so a quiz with ten questions worth 10 points each is out of 100. The submission shows each question with the answer given to it; see Submissions.

Deleting a question does not change submissions already made: they keep the answer given to it.
